Henry Kuttner was a science fiction author who inspired dozens of authors, yet is relatively obscure to most modern readers. Go back and The Proud Robot and other collected Gallagher shorts. They are remarkable, funny, and gripping. They make you wish there were about thiry more novels full of them. Then, when you're done with that, think about how contemporary these stories seem, except for the mistake on the computers. Then, realize that they were written in the late forties and early fifties, way way way way way before most of the stuff mentioned ever existed, and quake in awe at Kuttner's prescience.
